# Is Osmow's halal in Canada?

**Status: Unclear, no public statement**

Osmow's has published no halal statement that we could find. Its own website search returns no results for "halal" at all, and the chain does not appear on any Canadian certifier register we were able to read. That is a surprising result for a Mississauga-founded shawarma chain, and we have written to ask.

## How we checked

We read Osmow's homepage, about, menu, individual menu-item, allergen, catering, franchise and contact pages, its location directory and individual Mississauga and Oakville restaurant pages, and searched its own site index for halal. We checked the registers of the Halal Monitoring Authority (HMA) Canada, the Canadian Halal Food Certifying Agency, Halal Montreal Certification Authority and Al-Maarif; Osmow's appears on none of them.

We found a reference to a post on Osmow's own social account reportedly stating that all locations are halal. We could not open the original, so we are not treating it as evidence — but it is the single most promising lead in this whole series and we have asked Osmow's to confirm in writing. The Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of Canada's register and ISNA Canada's register would not open for us.

Osmow's has not published an answer we could find, and searching its own website for "halal" returns nothing. We have asked the company directly and will publish what they say.

**But everyone says Osmow's is halal.**

They may well be right, we are not saying otherwise. We are saying we could not find Osmow's saying it, and we do not publish halal status on the strength of common belief. One written answer from Osmow's settles this.

## How we decide what to publish

We publish what a chain says about itself, what a named halal certifier says about it, or what a specific restaurant says — and we say which. We do not publish community consensus, other directories' listings, or our own impressions. Where a chain says its food is not halal certified, that is what we print: certification is a paid third-party audit, and its absence is not a statement about slaughter method.
