**Status: Halal items named, no certification published**

Pita Pit's May 2026 release calls its limited-time chicken and beef shawarma halal certified, with no named certifier or published certificate; the claim covers those proteins. Its grill finish leaves sharing unresolved, so the separate cooking and storage described in the 2016 release cannot be assumed to apply today.

## What this means before you order

Pita Pit's 4 May 2026 Canadian launch release says its chicken and beef shawarma are halal certified. It names no certifier and provides no certificate. The claim covers those proteins, not the whole menu. The same release says they are finished on the grill in-store; whether that grill is shared remains unresolved.

The 2016 launch release named Mina Halal and described separate microwave cooking and storage away from other proteins. The 2026 release describes a grill finish instead. The older process cannot be assumed to apply to today's shawarma. The new lineup was announced for a limited time, so confirm both availability and handling at the restaurant.

_Halal practice can differ between restaurants of the same chain, and suppliers change. Always confirm with the specific restaurant before you order._

## Pita Pit halal FAQs

### Which Pita Pit items does the halal claim cover?

Pita Pit's 4 May 2026 Canadian release names chicken and beef shawarma as halal certified. Halal Food Pass read it on 7 September 2026. The claim does not cover the entire menu or establish restaurant-level certification. The lineup was announced for a limited time, so confirm current availability at the location.

### Who certifies Pita Pit shawarma?

Pita Pit's 2026 launch release does not name a certifier or publish a certificate. Halal Food Pass confirmed that limit when reading it on 7 September 2026. The older 2016 release names Mina Halal as a supplier, but a supplier name is not a current certificate covering both of the newer shawarma proteins.

### Is the Pita Pit shawarma grill shared?

Pita Pit's 4 May 2026 release says the proteins are finished on the grill in-store, but it does not say whether that grill is shared. We read it on 7 September 2026. Ask the restaurant about the grill surface, utensils and other products cooked there, then assess the answer with a certifier you trust.

### Does Pita Pit still use the separate microwave process from 2016?

The older Pita Pit release, published 22 November 2016, describes separate microwave cooking and segregated storage. The May 2026 release instead describes a grill finish. Halal Food Pass compared both on 7 September 2026. We cannot assume the old process still applies; ask the restaurant to explain the current preparation.

### Where can I explore other halal shawarma restaurants?

Halal Food Pass's [restaurant search](https://halalfoodpass.ca/) lets you look for shawarma options in the city you plan to visit. Our Pita Pit research was checked on 7 September 2026. Check each restaurant's details; do not assume that every business uses the same certifier or preparation method.

### When was Pita Pit last checked?

Halal Food Pass read the company releases and Canadian privacy policy on 7 September 2026. The current launch announcement is dated 4 May 2026, while the Mina Halal and microwave description comes from 22 November 2016. Those are different product-era statements. The next scheduled review is 7 March 2027.

## How we checked Pita Pit

On 7 September 2026, Halal Food Pass read Pita Pit's 4 May 2026 Business Wire release, its original 22 November 2016 Canada Newswire release and its Canadian privacy policy. We compared the preparation descriptions directly. The attempted /about-pita-pit/ page could not be opened; it supplies no evidence for this assessment. Our source selection follows [HFP's published halal-information method](https://halalfoodpass.ca/halal-information/).

**What we could not check:** The two company releases are separated by almost a decade. Our 7 September 2026 read confirms their wording, not that the older storage or microwave process remains in use. The 2026 release describes limited-time products. The next review is scheduled for 7 March 2027.

## How to read our halal labels

We publish what a chain says about itself, what a named halal certifier says about it, or what a specific restaurant says, and we say which. We do not publish community consensus, other directories' listings, or our own impressions. Where a chain says its food is not halal certified, that is what we print: certification is a paid third-party audit, and its absence is not a statement about slaughter method. Halal Food Pass reports halal information; it does not certify halal.
