**Status: In-store claim disputed by a named certifier**

Signs in some Ontario Wendy's name two halal certifiers; one of them, HMA, says it certifies no Wendy's location. Wendy's Canada has published nothing about halal on its own website and did not respond to the outlet that reported the signs. We could not find a public register for the second certifier named on the sign, and we have not seen the sign ourselves. Nothing here says whether the chicken is or is not halal — only who has claimed what, and who disputes it.

_Halal practice can differ between restaurants of the same chain, and suppliers change. Always confirm with the specific restaurant before you order._

## What Wendy's Canada says

- **Halal Monitoring Authority (HMA) Canada**, retrieved 2026-08-04 — HMA's public list of certified restaurants names 31 businesses. Wendy's is not among them. We read the register ourselves on 4 August 2026.

- **905HUB**, retrieved 2026-08-04 — "produced in a Halal facility certified by Association Musulmane de Certification des Viandes Halal and Halal Monitoring Authority (HMA)" — A local outlet photographed decals at Mississauga locations and reported this wording on 29 May 2026. We have not seen a decal ourselves, and Wendy's has not published it.

- **Halal Monitoring Authority (HMA), reported by 905HUB**, retrieved 2026-08-04 — "does not certify or monitor any Wendy's location" — The outlet reports HMA said this on its own Instagram account. We could not read that post directly, so we are relying on the outlet's account of it — but it is consistent with the register above, which we did read.

## How we checked

We read the Halal Monitoring Authority's public register of certified restaurants and did not find Wendy's on it. We looked for a halal statement on Wendy's Canadian website and found none. We read the local reporting that photographed the in-store decals. We searched for a public register from the Association Musulmane de Certification des Viandes Halal — the second certifier named on the sign — and could not find one, so we can neither confirm nor rule out that half of the claim.

The reporting we relied on is dated 29 May 2026; we re-read HMA's register on 4 August 2026 and Wendy's was still absent. Wendy's Canada had published nothing by that date and did not answer the outlet that asked. Staff answers at different restaurants were reported as inconsistent, which is one reason we are not treating any single restaurant's answer as the chain's position.

A written enquiry to Wendy's Canada is drafted and pending. Their answer will replace the section above.

## Common questions

**Is Wendy's halal in Canada?**

We do not know, and the sources disagree. Signs at some Ontario locations name two halal certifiers. One of them, the Halal Monitoring Authority, is reported to have said it certifies no Wendy's location, and Wendy's does not appear on HMA's public register, we checked it ourselves. Wendy's itself has published nothing.

**Does the sign in my local Wendy's settle it?**

Not on its own. The sign names two certifiers. One of them says publicly that it does not certify Wendy's, and we could find no public register for the other. A sign is a claim made by the restaurant; it is not the same as a certificate you can look up.

**Why will you not just say yes or no?**

Because no source we can stand behind says either. We publish what a chain says about itself, what a named certifier says about it, or what a specific restaurant says, and here those disagree with each other. Reporting the disagreement, and naming what we could not check, is more useful to you than picking a side.

## How we decide what to publish

We publish what a chain says about itself, what a named halal certifier says about it, or what a specific restaurant says — and we say which. We do not publish community consensus, other directories' listings, or our own impressions. Where a chain says its food is not halal certified, that is what we print: certification is a paid third-party audit, and its absence is not a statement about slaughter method. Halal Food Pass reports halal information; it does not certify halal.
