Halal Food Pass

Is it halal?

Is Tim Hortons halal in Canada?

Nobody has said

Unclear, no public statement

We could not read Tim Hortons' Canadian website, so we cannot report what it says about halal.

On 4 August 2026 timhortons.ca returned an application shell for every page we tried, including a deliberately invented address, which tells us the site serves the same shell regardless. Its parent company's sourcing and food-safety material never mentions halal.

Halal practice can differ between restaurants of the same chain, and suppliers change. Always confirm with the specific restaurant before you order.

What does this status mean?
Halal at all Canadian locations
The chain, or a named halal certifier, states this for Canada.
Varies by location
Halal at some Canadian restaurants and not confirmed at others.
Halal items named, no certification published
The chain names halal ingredients on its own site but claims no certification and names no certifier.
No halal certification nationally
The chain states explicitly that it has no halal certification in Canada. That is about certification, not about slaughter method.
Unclear — no public statement
Nobody has published an answer. The honest default, not a negative finding.

What Tim Hortons says

Restaurant Brands International

Canada

Tim Hortons' parent company names the assurance schemes it requires of suppliers — none of them is a halal standard, and halal is not mentioned.

The responsible-sourcing material describes supplier requirements without reference to halal.

How we checked

We attempted timhortons.ca's nutrition, FAQ, contact, robots and sitemap files, and read Restaurant Brands International's ingredients, food-safety, responsible-sourcing and contact pages plus its 2025 responsibility report in full.

What we could not check

Tim Hortons' Canadian website is entirely closed to our tools, so we cannot even establish which pages exist, let alone what they say. Our parent-company finding is real but it is corporate sustainability material, not an answer about chicken, bacon or the gelatin in doughnuts and Timbits — which is what most people are actually asking about. That question is unanswered.

We have drafted a written enquiry to Tim Hortons asking whether any Canadian menu items are halal-certified, whether that is consistent nationally, and which certifier is involved. When they answer, their answer replaces this section and the date changes.

Tim Hortons locations we have verified

Halal Food Pass verifies restaurants one at a time and lists only what we have checked.

None yet. Halal Food Pass has not verified and listed any Tim Hortons location. That is a statement about our directory, not about the chain, we list restaurants one at a time, after they confirm their own halal information to us.

If you run a Tim Hortons location and it serves halal food, tell us and we will verify it.

Where you can eat instead

Halal restaurants in our directory serving similar food, with live Lime Card deals where one is running. Every one of these confirmed its own halal information to us.

Those are the two cities we cover properly today. We would rather say so than pad this page with restaurants we have not verified. Tell us where you are and we will let you know when we get there.

Common questions

Is Tim Hortons halal?

We do not know. Tim Hortons' Canadian website would not load for our checks, and its parent company's sourcing material does not mention halal.

What about gelatin in the doughnuts or Timbits?

That is the question most people are really asking, and we could not answer it. The ingredient information lives on the Tim Hortons site we could not read. We have asked directly.

How we decide what to publish

We publish what a chain says about itself, what a named halal certifier says about it, or what a specific restaurant says — and we tell you which. We do not publish community consensus, other directories' listings, or our own impressions. When a chain has said nothing, we say so plainly rather than guessing, because guessing about this is worse than useless. Halal Food Pass reports halal information; it does not certify halal.

Where a chain says its food is not halal certified, that is what we print. Certification is a paid third-party audit, and its absence is not the same as a statement about how animals were slaughtered. We do not stretch one into the other.
