Is it halal?
Is McDonald's halal in Canada?
Nobody has said
Unclear, no public statement
McDonald's Canada has not published a halal position that we could read.
Its Canadian food and sourcing pages are silent on halal, and the Q&A portal that used to answer questions like this one has been retired. McDonald's has published halal positions in other countries, but those are country-specific and do not apply here.
Halal practice can differ between restaurants of the same chain, and suppliers change. Always confirm with the specific restaurant before you order.

What does this status mean?
- Halal at all Canadian locations
- The chain, or a named halal certifier, states this for Canada.
- Varies by location
- Halal at some Canadian restaurants and not confirmed at others.
- Halal items named, no certification published
- The chain names halal ingredients on its own site but claims no certification and names no certifier.
- No halal certification nationally
- The chain states explicitly that it has no halal certification in Canada. That is about certification, not about slaughter method.
- Unclear — no public statement
- Nobody has published an answer. The honest default, not a negative finding.
What McDonald's Canada says
McDonald's Canada
CanadaMcDonald's Canada's food quality and sourcing page describes its suppliers and standards and does not mention halal.

— not Canada“we decided against offering Halal food in the U.K. for the time being”
McDonald's in the United Kingdom explains that it trialled halal food in one restaurant and decided against offering it there. This is a UK statement. It does not mention Canada and we do not treat it as a Canadian answer.
mcdonalds.com ↗ · retrieved 2026-08-04How we checked
We read McDonald's Canada's about-our-food, food quality and sourcing, nutrition calculator and contact pages, and checked the registers of the Halal Monitoring Authority (HMA) Canada.
What we could not check
The Canadian FAQ page did not render its content for us, and McDonald's Canada's former "Your Questions" portal — which once answered halal questions, including one about Mississauga — now redirects away and its answer pages return errors. We have seen a claim attributed to McDonald's Canada's own social account stating that none of its menu items are halal. We could not open the original, so we are not repeating it as fact; if we can verify it, this page will change.
We have drafted a written enquiry to McDonald's Canada asking whether any Canadian menu items are halal-certified, whether that is consistent nationally, and which certifier is involved. When they answer, their answer replaces this section and the date changes.
McDonald's locations we have verified
Halal Food Pass verifies restaurants one at a time and lists only what we have checked.
None yet. Halal Food Pass has not verified and listed any McDonald's location. That is a statement about our directory, not about the chain, we list restaurants one at a time, after they confirm their own halal information to us.
If you run a McDonald's location and it serves halal food, tell us and we will verify it.
Where you can eat instead
Halal restaurants in our directory serving similar food, with live Lime Card deals where one is running. Every one of these confirmed its own halal information to us.

Not in Mississauga or Oakville?
Those are the two cities we cover properly today. We would rather say so than pad this page with restaurants we have not verified. Tell us where you are and we will let you know when we get there.

How we decide what to publish
We publish what a chain says about itself, what a named halal certifier says about it, or what a specific restaurant says — and we tell you which. We do not publish community consensus, other directories' listings, or our own impressions. When a chain has said nothing, we say so plainly rather than guessing, because guessing about this is worse than useless. Halal Food Pass reports halal information; it does not certify halal.
Where a chain says its food is not halal certified, that is what we print. Certification is a paid third-party audit, and its absence is not the same as a statement about how animals were slaughtered. We do not stretch one into the other.
