Is it halal? Canada
Is Freshii halal in Canada?
Unclear, no public statement
Freshii has published no halal statement. On 1 October 2026 we read freshii.com, its FAQ, menu, sitemap and the Nutritionals and Allergen Guide revised 27 August 2026; the word halal appears nowhere. One Calgary franchisee's site claims certified chicken and steak at that location; that is the franchisee's claim, not the chain's. No certifier lists a Freshii.
What the evidence supports
| Question | Supported finding | Scope | Source and date |
|---|---|---|---|
| What has Freshii said? | Nothing about halal. On 1 October 2026 the FAQ, 28 listed questions plus a further block on the app and loyalty points, covered ordering, payments and delivery and contained no halal, kosher, pork, certified, vegan or allergen wording; its nutrition answer points to the guide. The home page says only that the menu suits people who want to eat well, are vegetarian or have dietary preferences. A site search for halal returned “No restaurants found.” | Canada, website and FAQ | Freshii, FAQ, retrieved 2026-10-01 |
| What does the national guide say? | The Nutritionals & Allergen Guide, “Revision Date: 27/08/2026,” twelve pages, lists Chicken Breast Oven Roast, Beef Strip Steakette, Bacon Chip, Vegetarian Falafel, Marinated Tofu, Egg, Spicy Salmon Poke, Teriyaki Salmon, Spicy Tuna Poke, Ponzu Ahi Tuna, Ponzu Prawns and Teriyaki Tofu. Nutrient and allergen tables only: no halal, kosher, pork, gelatin, enzyme, rennet, alcohol or certified wording. It says Freshii “prepares whole and fresh ingredients in a shared kitchen space and may involve shared equipment.” | Canada, national document, revised 27 August 2026 | Freshii, Nutritionals & Allergen Guide, retrieved 2026-10-01 |
| Does the menu or the rest of the site mention halal? | No. The menu index lists six categories (Smoothiis, Burrito, Energii Bowls, Wraps, Poke Bowls, Salads); the Burrito page (8 items) and Salads page (5 items) carry no halal, kosher, pork or bacon wording, the Cobb Salad naming “tender chicken.” About Us gives a global figure of over 300 locations and links franchising to foodtastic.ca. The 48-URL page sitemap has no halal, locations or restaurant page. The Wraps, Energii Bowls, Poke Bowls and Smoothiis pages were not opened. | Canada, website | Freshii, menu, retrieved 2026-10-01 |
| What does the Freshii Sundance site claim? | A separate site for the franchise at 15 Sunpark Plaza SE, Calgary, “Locally owned and operated since 2015,” says: “Our chicken and steak are halal-certified.”; “The chicken is certified by the Central Islamic Council of Thailand, and the steak is certified by FAMBRAS Halal Brazil.”; “Certification applies to the chicken and steak proteins, not to the entire restaurant.” No certificate is displayed, no chain page confirms the site's ownership, and the certifiers named are foreign product certifiers. It is a franchisee's claim about one location, not Freshii's statement, and not a finding. | One Calgary location, franchisee claim, two proteins | Freshii Sundance (franchisee site), retrieved 2026-10-01 |
| Could the locations be read? | No. The ordering site's pickup page renders only an app shell with configuration data, so the restaurant list and any per-location attributes could not be read; the sitemap carries no location pages. The only location figure the chain gives is global: “over 300 freshii locations across the world.” No Canadian count is stated or adopted. | Canada, locator, unread | Freshii, online ordering, retrieved 2026-10-01 |
| Is any Freshii restaurant certified? | No. The Halal Monitoring Authority's certified-restaurant register, 82 entries read in a rendered browser on 1 October 2026, and the 34 entries in ISNA Halal's restaurants category name no Freshii; HMA's supplier list of September 2017 does not either. CHFCA's directory showed only a loading message and could not be read; CHEC was not checked this run. Neither foreign body named by the Calgary franchisee was queried. | Canada | HMA and ISNA Halal registers, retrieved 2026-10-01 |
What this means before you order
Nobody has said. Freshii's website, read on 1 October 2026, contains no halal statement: not on the home page, not in the FAQ, whose questions are about ordering, the app, payments, delivery and loyalty points, not on the menu index or the Burrito and Salads pages, not on About Us, not in the 48-URL sitemap, and not in the Nutritionals & Allergen Guide with a revision date of 27 August 2026, which lists Chicken Breast Oven Roast, Beef Strip Steakette and Bacon Chip among its proteins with no halal, kosher, pork or certification wording.
A site search for halal returned “No restaurants found.” No Canadian certifier register we could read lists a Freshii. A separate website for one Calgary franchise says its chicken and steak are halal-certified; that is a claim by a franchisee about one location, discussed below, and it is not a statement by Freshii.
What the chain's own document says matters for a halal diet. The guide's protein list is Chicken Breast Oven Roast, Beef Strip Steakette, Bacon Chip, falafel, tofu, egg, salmon, tuna and prawns; the word pork does not appear, so the species of the Bacon Chip is not stated, and no supplier, certifier or slaughter method is named for the chicken or beef.
The guide says Freshii “prepares whole and fresh ingredients in a shared kitchen space and may involve shared equipment” and that it “cannot guarantee a 100% allergen-free environment”; that is an allergen notice, not a description of halal segregation. The FAQ answers no question about halal, pork or allergens and points nutrition questions to the guide. The ordering site's location list would not render for our tools, so no per-location attribute could be read.
If a Freshii near you advertises halal, ask which proteins the claim covers, who certifies them and whether the certificate can be shown.
Suppliers and preparation can change. Confirm the current halal information with the specific restaurant before ordering.
What official sources establish
Freshii has said nothing about halal that we could find. On 1 October 2026 we read freshii.com's home page, menu index, Burrito and Salads pages, FAQ, About Us, terms and the 48-URL page sitemap, and searched the site for halal, which returned “No restaurants found.” The FAQ lists 28 questions on ordering, the app, payments, delivery and loyalty points, with a further block of app and loyalty questions; none mentions halal, kosher, pork, certification, vegan options or allergens, and its nutrition answer points to the guide. The home page says the menu is for people who want to eat well, are vegetarian or have dietary preferences, and goes no further.
The chain's one national document is the Nutritionals & Allergen Guide, linked from the home page, the menu and About Us, with a printed revision date of 27 August 2026 and twelve pages. Its proteins are Chicken Breast Oven Roast, Beef Strip Steakette, Bacon Chip, Vegetarian Falafel, Marinated Tofu, Egg, Spicy Salmon Poke, Teriyaki Salmon, Spicy Tuna Poke, Ponzu Ahi Tuna, Ponzu Prawns and Teriyaki Tofu.
It carries nutrient and allergen tables, not ingredient statements, and no halal, kosher, pork, gelatin, enzyme, rennet, alcohol or certified wording. Its preparation line is this: “Freshii is a restaurant environment that prepares whole and fresh ingredients in a shared kitchen space and may involve shared equipment.” It adds: “Although we take precautions, we cannot guarantee a 100% allergen-free environment.”
The entity is Freshii Inc., per the terms last revised 19 March 2024; franchising is handled through foodtastic.ca, and Pita Pit's privacy notice, read the same day, lists Freshii among the brands of Foodtastic Inc. and its affiliates. Pita Pit has named halal shawarma in a 2026 release; Freshii has named nothing, and a shared parent is not a shared position.
No certifier lists a Freshii. On 1 October 2026 the Halal Monitoring Authority's certified-restaurant register, 82 entries read in a rendered browser, and the 34 entries in ISNA Halal's restaurants category named none; HMA's supplier list, last updated September 2017, does not name Freshii either. CHFCA's directory showed only a loading message and could not be read.
Locations and products
Freshii publishes no Canadian location count and no per-location halal tag that we could read. About Us says “over 300 freshii locations across the world,” a global figure. The ordering site's pickup page rendered only an app shell for our tools, so its restaurant list and any attributes on it could not be read, and the sitemap has no location pages. Nothing on this page counts restaurants.
The menu is smoothies, burritos, Energii bowls, wraps, poke bowls and salads. The meats and fish on the national guide are Chicken Breast Oven Roast, Beef Strip Steakette, Bacon Chip, salmon, tuna and prawns, with falafel, tofu and egg as the other proteins. Nothing on the site says any of them is halal, and the species of the Bacon Chip is not stated.
One franchise says more. The separate website freshiisundance.com, for the Freshii at 15 Sunpark Plaza SE in Calgary, describes itself as locally owned and operated since 2015 and says: “Our chicken and steak are halal-certified.” It names the certifiers as the Central Islamic Council of Thailand for the chicken and FAMBRAS Halal Brazil for the steak, and says certification “applies to the chicken and steak proteins, not to the entire restaurant.”
We read those pages on 1 October 2026. No certificate is shown, no Freshii page confirms who runs the site, and the chain has said nothing about it. It is the franchisee's claim about two proteins at one location, reported here as a claim and not as a finding, and it does not change the label. If you eat there, ask to see both certificates and check their dates.
Certification, ingredients and preparation
An unclear status is not a finding that the food is not halal. It records that Freshii has made no statement and that no certifier lists it.
A franchisee's claim is not the chain's statement. Freshii could publish a halal position for its Canadian restaurants and has not; what one Calgary site says binds nobody else and covers no other location. Even on its own terms the Sundance claim is about imported product certificates for two proteins, from bodies in Thailand and Brazil; it is supplier-level, it names no Canadian certifier, and the site itself says it does not cover the restaurant.
A shared-kitchen notice is not a halal statement either way. The guide's line about shared kitchen space and shared equipment is written for allergens; it tells you that the Bacon Chip, the chicken and the beef are handled in the same kitchen, and it tells you nothing about whether any of them is halal or how they are kept apart.
Vegetarian is not halal. Freshii's home page and menu describe vegetarian choices, and the guide lists falafel and tofu; a bowl without meat still raises the questions of dressings, cheese enzymes and shared preparation, none of which the chain's documents address. Those are questions for the restaurant and for the standard of the certifier you trust.
What Freshii has not said, and what to check before ordering
Not said by Freshii Inc. as of 1 October 2026: whether it has a written halal position for its Canadian restaurants; which suppliers provide the Chicken Breast Oven Roast and Beef Strip Steakette nationally and whether any holds a halal certificate; whether franchisees such as Freshii Sundance in Calgary are permitted to source and advertise halal-certified proteins, and whether the chain checks those claims; what species the Bacon Chip is and whether it shares equipment with the chicken and steak; and whether any cheese or dressing contains animal rennet, gelatin or alcohol.
Before ordering, ask the restaurant whether its chicken and steak are halal-certified today, which supplier and certifier stand behind them and whether the certificate can be shown, with its date and the product named on it. At the Calgary location that advertises halal, ask for both certificates. Everywhere, remember that the claim, where one exists, covers two proteins, not the kitchen.
Freshii halal FAQs
Is Freshii halal in Canada?
Freshii has not said. On 1 October 2026 we read freshii.com, its FAQ, menu pages, sitemap, site search and its Nutritionals and Allergen Guide revised 27 August 2026, and the word halal appears nowhere. No certifier register we could read lists a Freshii. A separate site for one Calgary franchise claims halal-certified chicken and steak at that location; that is the franchisee's claim, not the chain's. This is an absence of any statement, not a statement that the food is not halal.
Has Freshii published a halal statement or FAQ answer?
No. Freshii's FAQ, read on 1 October 2026, has 28 listed questions plus a block on the app and loyalty points, all about ordering, payments and delivery; none mentions halal, kosher, pork or certification, and its nutrition answer points to the guide. The home page, menu pages, About Us and the 48-URL sitemap carry no halal wording, and a site search for halal returned "No restaurants found."
Is Freshii chicken or steak halal?
Freshii has not said. Its national guide, revised 27 August 2026, lists Chicken Breast Oven Roast and Beef Strip Steakette with no supplier, certifier or slaughter method, and no halal wording. One Calgary franchise says on its own website that its chicken and steak are halal-certified by foreign product certifiers; that claim covers two proteins at one location and is not a statement by Freshii about any other restaurant. Ask the restaurant you are ordering from.
Does Freshii serve bacon or pork?
Freshii's Nutritionals and Allergen Guide of 27 August 2026 lists a "Bacon Chip" among its proteins. The word pork does not appear in the guide or on any page we read on 1 October 2026, so the species of the Bacon Chip is not stated. The guide says ingredients are prepared in a shared kitchen space that may involve shared equipment, and it says nothing about keeping the bacon apart from the chicken or steak.
What does the Freshii Sundance (Calgary) halal claim cover, and who certifies it?
Per freshiisundance.com, read on 1 October 2026: the chicken and steak at the Freshii at 15 Sunpark Plaza SE, Calgary, which the site says is locally owned and operated since 2015. It names the Central Islamic Council of Thailand for the chicken and FAMBRAS Halal Brazil for the steak, and says certification "applies to the chicken and steak proteins, not to the entire restaurant." No certificate is shown and no Freshii page confirms who runs the site. It is a franchisee's claim about one location, not a chain statement and not a finding.
Does Freshii use a shared kitchen?
Yes, per the chain's own guide, revised 27 August 2026 and read on 1 October 2026: "Freshii is a restaurant environment that prepares whole and fresh ingredients in a shared kitchen space and may involve shared equipment," and it "cannot guarantee a 100% allergen-free environment." That is an allergen notice, not a description of halal handling. Ask the restaurant how your order is prepared and judge the answer by the standard of a certifier you trust.
When was this page last checked?
On 1 October 2026 we read freshii.com's home page, menu index and two category pages, FAQ, About Us, terms, sitemap and site search, the Nutritionals and Allergen Guide revised 27 August 2026, the ordering site's pickup page, the Freshii Sundance franchisee pages, and the HMA and ISNA Halal registers. Next review is due on 31 October 2026, or sooner if Freshii publishes anything.

On 1 October 2026 we read freshii.com's home page, menu index, Burrito page (eight items), Salads page (five items), FAQ, About Us, terms, the sitemap index and the 48-URL page sitemap, and the site's own search results for halal. We read the Nutritionals and Allergen Guide with a revision date of 27 August 2026 (twelve pages) in full for its proteins and disclaimers.
We opened the ordering site's pickup page, which rendered only an app shell. We read the home page and halal page of freshiisundance.com, the separate website for the Calgary franchise at 15 Sunpark Plaza SE. We read the Halal Monitoring Authority's certified-restaurant register (82 entries) and ISNA Halal's restaurants category (34 entries) in a rendered browser, and HMA's supplier list of September 2017; Freshii appears on none.
CHFCA's directory could not be read. CBC Marketplace's 2024 investigation did not mention Freshii. The Wraps, Energii Bowls, Poke Bowls and Smoothiis pages, the catering, contact and privacy pages, the French pages and the chain's social accounts were not opened.
What we could not check: Freshii has published nothing on halal that we could read; the guide is an allergen document with a printed revision date of 27 August 2026. The ordering site's location list would not render, so no count and no per-location attribute could be read. The Calgary franchisee's claim is unverified: we have not seen its certificates or confirmed who runs the site. We have not called any restaurant.
Research and review: Researched by Halal Food Pass editorial on 7 September and 1 October 2026. Reviewed by Shaz Khan, publisher.
Change log:
- : First published as unclear, no public statement: freshii.com's home page, About Us, FAQ, terms and the nutrition guide revised 27 August 2026 read; the Freshii Sundance franchisee site noted as an unauthenticated local claim.
- : Series rebuild. Site re-read with the 48-URL sitemap, site search, menu index and two category pages; the guide's protein list and shared-kitchen line quoted; the ordering site's location list still would not render; the Freshii Sundance franchisee pages re-read and found to now name two foreign product certifiers for one Calgary location, recorded as a franchisee claim and not the chain's; registers checked in the browser. Label unchanged; claim table, sections and FAQ added. Review cadence set to 30 days.
How to read our halal labels
We report what a chain, a named certifier or a specific restaurant says, with the scope of that statement. Halal Food Pass does not certify halal.
A statement about chicken does not automatically cover the whole menu. A supplier certificate does not establish restaurant certification. A lack of published certification does not tell us how animals were slaughtered.
When a chain states publicly that its food is halal, we report that statement as the chain's own word, with its date, its scope and the certifier it names, and we treat it as standing until the chain withdraws it or evidence contradicts it. A claim that rests on unnamed phone calls or an anonymous post is reported as a claim, not as a finding.
Read our halal information policy or learn how to check a restaurant’s halal information.
