Its website carries no halal wording, and the restaurant data behind its own store finder has a halal field that is empty for all 363 Canadian restaurants we read. No certifier lists a Popeyes. CBC Marketplace found one location showing a supplier's certificate as if the restaurant were certified.

What this means before you order
Nobody has said. Popeyes Canada has published no halal statement anywhere we could read on 15 September 2026: no page on popeyeschicken.ca mentions halal, and the restaurant records that power its own store finder carry a field for exactly this, “isHalal,” which is empty for every one of the 363 Canadian restaurants we read. No Canadian certifier lists a Popeyes. Individual restaurants may buy halal chicken and say so at the counter; the chain has not said it, and when CBC Marketplace asked in 2024, Popeyes did not respond.
The absence is unusually well documented for this chain. Most restaurant websites let us say only that we found no halal page; Popeyes Canada's own data model has a place to mark a restaurant halal and nobody at the chain has marked one. That is not proof that no Popeyes serves halal chicken. Marketplace's undercover team was shown a supplier's halal certificate at one GTA Popeyes in 2024, presented by staff as if it covered the whole restaurant, which it did not. If a Popeyes near you says its chicken is halal, ask for the supplier and the current certificate.
Suppliers and preparation can change. Confirm the current halal information with the specific restaurant before ordering.
What official sources establish
Popeyes Canada has published nothing on halal. popeyeschicken.ca is a single-page ordering application; every address on it, including the FAQ and about addresses people search for, serves the same app. On 15 September 2026 we read its rendered home, menu, offers, rewards, allergen and nutrition pages and a rendered restaurant page, and enumerated its 524-URL sitemap: no halal wording anywhere, and no halal page. The allergen page links a “PLK CAN Allergen Guide, December 2023” PDF.
The chain's own restaurant data goes further than silence. The records that power the store finder, which we read through the site's own data client on 15 September 2026, include a field named isHalal alongside fields for drive-through, delivery, dine-in, Wi-Fi and playground. We read 363 of the 368 restaurants in the sitemap (five ids return no record): 238 in Ontario, 50 in British Columbia, 42 in Alberta, 13 in Saskatchewan, 11 in Manitoba, 5 in Nova Scotia and 4 in New Brunswick, every one with status Open.
The halal field is unset on all 363. The chain has a way to say a restaurant is halal and has not used it for any restaurant in Canada.
No Canadian certifier lists a Popeyes. On 15 September 2026 the Halal Monitoring Authority's certified-restaurant register, CHEC's certified-restaurant list and the entries ISNA Halal's directory displayed named none.
When CBC Marketplace asked in 2024, Popeyes did not respond. Its report of 18 October 2024, which we read in the Radio-Canada International copy, describes undercover visits to two GTA Popeyes: at one, staff told the team the whole restaurant was certified halal and showed a certificate issued to a meat supplier as proof. It was a supplier document, not a restaurant certificate; not one of the ten locations Marketplace visited across five chains is a certified restaurant.
Locations and products
No location is marked halal by the chain and no product is described as halal on its site. If a Popeyes restaurant near you advertises halal chicken, that is the franchisee's claim, not the chain's, and the supplier certificate it can show you covers the chicken as delivered, not the kitchen.
The 363 restaurants we read are the chain's current Canadian footprint as its own site lists it. Popeyes has no Quebec restaurants in that data.
Certification, ingredients and preparation
An empty field is a statement of sorts. Popeyes Canada's systems can mark a restaurant halal; none is marked. We report that as what it is, a chain that has not said, rather than as a denial: the chain has not said its food is not halal either.
A supplier's certificate is not the restaurant's. The document one Popeyes showed CBC certified a meat supplier. It says nothing about the restaurant's other ingredients, its fryers or its handling, and HMA's Imam Omar Subedar told CBC that presenting such a document as restaurant certification is common and unfortunate.
Franchisee practice varies. A franchisee may buy certified chicken and say so; another may not. Nothing the chain publishes tells you which is which.
What Popeyes has not said, and what to check before ordering
Not said by Popeyes Canada as of 15 September 2026: whether any Canadian restaurant serves halal chicken; who its chicken suppliers are; whether the halal field in its own data will ever be used; and any response to Marketplace's 2024 findings.
Before ordering, ask the restaurant whether its chicken is halal, which supplier it comes from, and to show you the current certificate; check the date and read whose name is on it. Halal Food Pass lists certified and self-described halal fried-chicken restaurants near every Popeyes in its directory.

We read CBC Marketplace's 18 October 2024 report in the Radio-Canada International copy, cbc.ca having refused every read. We read the Halal Monitoring Authority's certified-restaurant register, CHEC's certified-restaurant list and the entries ISNA Halal's directory displayed; Popeyes appears on none. We re-read Restaurant Brands International's real-ingredients page. The 4 August 2026 read of the nutrition guide PDF is recorded in our research log and was not repeated.
What we could not check: Popeyes Canada has said nothing; the strongest evidence is the empty halal field in its own restaurant data, which is a description of the chain's records on one day, not a statement of policy. Five sitemap ids returned no record. We have not called any restaurant and have not read the December 2023 allergen PDF itself.

How to read our halal labels
We report what a chain, a named certifier or a specific restaurant says, with the scope of that statement. Halal Food Pass does not certify halal.
A statement about chicken does not automatically cover the whole menu. A supplier certificate does not establish restaurant certification. A lack of published certification does not tell us how animals were slaughtered.
When a chain states publicly that its food is halal, we report that statement as the chain's own word, with its date, its scope and the certifier it names, and we treat it as standing until the chain withdraws it or evidence contradicts it. A claim that rests on unnamed phone calls or an anonymous post is reported as a claim, not as a finding.
