Ridgeway Plaza Parking Garage Proposal: What Diners Should Know

Ridgeway Plaza Parking Garage Proposal: What Diners Should Know

A four-storey parking garage has been suggested for Ridgeway Plaza, bringing another proposal into the discussion about access to Mississauga’s restaurant destination. But diners should distinguish the idea from an approved construction project.

According to INsauga’s September 25 report, Mayor Carolyn Parrish proposed the facility during Mississauga’s September 25, 2026 mayoral debate.

For anyone planning dinner, dessert or chai at the plaza, the immediate takeaway is straightforward: the reporting reviewed for this article does not establish an approved garage or an opening date. Plan your visit around the existing parking arrangements, not a future facility.

Information checked September 27, 2026. Proposal details are attributed to published reporting. Historical parking observations are identified separately from current conditions.

What is the Ridgeway Plaza parking garage proposal?

INsauga reported that Parrish suggested the City acquire land, through purchase or expropriation, for a four-storey parking facility. She said parking revenue could recover its cost within three to four years.

That repayment period is a claim made during the debate, not an independently verified financial forecast. Establishing it would require a cost estimate, parking rates, expected occupancy and operating expenses.

Garage discussions also appeared in The Local’s September 23 feature on Ridgeway Plaza, which reported that Councillor Sue McFadden said talks about a parking garage were underway. That earlier reference provides context, but does not establish project approval.

Has a Ridgeway Plaza parking garage been approved?

Approval has not been verified from the sources reviewed for this article as of September 27, 2026.

A suggestion made during a debate is different from a Council decision, an adopted project budget or a construction announcement. This article should not be read as confirmation that land has been acquired or building work is scheduled.

Important details remain unverified, including the exact site, number of parking spaces, construction cost, funding arrangements and opening timetable.

The distinction matters for visitors. A proposed garage is not an additional parking option that diners can use today, and a description of its height does not establish its capacity.

Why is parking at Ridgeway Plaza part of the discussion?

The City’s published evidence shows why parking attracts attention.

The November 2025 Ridgeway Plaza Parking Study, prepared by Paradigm Transportation Solutions Limited, reported weekend peak demand close to the capacity used in its analysis:

  • Northern centre: 893 parked vehicles against a study capacity of 901 spaces.
  • Southern centre: 747 parked vehicles against a study capacity of 749 spaces.

The study calls these centres Platinum Plaza and Odyssey Plaza, respectively. Its second survey covered May 1 and May 3, 2025.

These figures need two qualifications. The separate peaks occurred at different times, so they should not be combined into a single count of available spaces. The northern capacity also assumes nine spaces are removed for a proposed access connection.

These are historical study figures, not a live parking count. They explain the documented weekend pressure without showing how many spaces are available on a particular evening today.

What would diners need to know about a future garage?

The practical details would matter as much as the number of storeys.

A diner collecting takeout would need to know whether short-stay parking was available and how far the walk would be. A family planning a longer meal would need information about charges, accessible spaces, lifts and pedestrian routes to the restaurants.

A future design would also need to show how vehicles enter and leave the facility. Additional parking capacity and easier movement through the plaza are related questions, but they are not the same measurement.

Until those details are available, it would be premature to promise shorter parking searches, easier pickups or reduced congestion.

Ridgeway’s appeal includes the possibility of visiting several businesses in one trip. Our history of Ridgeway Plaza’s development as a halal food hub explains how the concentration of restaurants, cafés and dessert shops helped make the wider plaza a destination.

Would a parking garage change Ridgeway’s restaurant zoning rules?

A garage proposal does not itself amend the zoning rules for restaurants.

Mississauga’s By-law 0005-2026, passed January 14, 2026, introduced maximum combined floor areas for restaurant-type uses within the Ridgeway Special Area.

The distinction is important: those provisions regulate restaurant floor area, rather than setting a fixed number of restaurant businesses.

A parking proposal should therefore not be interpreted as automatic permission for restaurant expansion or the conversion of additional retail units into restaurants. The applicable zoning and any subsequent amendments would need to be checked separately.

Our explainer on new restaurants at Ridgeway Plaza and the 2026 zoning rules covers the difference between a new restaurant name and additional restaurant space.

For prospective operators, our Ridgeway Plaza restaurant cost guide examines advertised property costs and the permissions that need checking before committing to a unit.

How should you plan a Ridgeway Plaza visit now?

Use the existing visitor information rather than making plans around the proposed garage.

Halal Food Pass’s August 2026 observations found weekday lunches and afternoons generally easier for parking than Friday and Saturday evenings. Those are dated observations, not guaranteed conditions or measured parking-wait forecasts.

Start with the Ridgeway Plaza restaurant directory to choose your destination and check its exact address. Restaurant hours shown online should be confirmed directly when last orders, holiday schedules or a long journey could affect your visit.

For a meal followed by dessert or coffee, consider parking once and walking between stops where practical and permitted. Follow current parking signs, use designated pedestrian routes and keep access lanes clear.

What would confirm that the proposal is moving forward?

The clearest evidence would be a dated City decision or project document identifying what has actually been authorized.

Useful details would include the site, approved funding, design and capacity, ownership or operating arrangements, and a delivery timetable. A parking tariff would be needed before visitors could calculate the cost of using the facility.

Until such information is verified, the appropriate description remains a parking garage proposal, not a confirmed new garage.

Reporting note: This article draws on the linked local reporting, the City’s parking study and zoning documents, and HFP’s previously published Ridgeway guides. It does not present an independent engineering assessment or financial feasibility study.

Ridgeway Plaza parking garage FAQs

Is Ridgeway Plaza getting a four-storey parking garage?

A four-storey garage has been proposed. As of September 27, 2026, the sources reviewed for this article do not establish an approved construction project or an opening date.

Who proposed the Ridgeway Plaza parking garage?

INsauga reported that Mayor Carolyn Parrish suggested the four-storey facility during Mississauga’s September 25, 2026 mayoral debate.

Where would the Ridgeway Plaza parking garage be built?

An approved site plan and exact project address have not been verified for this article. Do not treat a suggested location as an acquired or approved construction site.

When would the Ridgeway Plaza parking garage open?

No opening date has been verified as of September 27, 2026. A debate proposal is not a construction schedule.

How much would the garage cost, and how many spaces would it have?

A construction budget and parking-space count have not been verified. Four storeys describes a proposed height, not the number of vehicles a final design could accommodate.

Would parking in the proposed garage be free?

The reported proposal envisaged paid parking. No approved rates or operating policy have been verified. This should not be confused with the arrangements in Ridgeway’s existing surface lots.

Is the existing parking at Ridgeway Plaza free?

HFP observed free surface parking during its August 2026 visits. Drivers should follow current signs and restrictions rather than assume those observations establish today’s rules. See the Ridgeway Plaza parking guide for the dated information.

Would a parking garage allow more restaurants to open at Ridgeway Plaza?

A garage proposal does not automatically change restaurant zoning. The City’s 2026 by-law sets limits on combined restaurant floor area. Any proposed new restaurant use or expansion needs to be assessed under the applicable rules. Read our Ridgeway restaurant zoning explainer.

Where can I find Ridgeway Plaza restaurants while the proposal remains unconfirmed?

Use the Ridgeway Plaza restaurant directory for individual listings, addresses, recorded hours and halal information. The garage proposal does not provide a new parking facility for a visit today.
